Final Report
The following is the final report for AE 482 - Architectural Engineering Senior Thesis. The South Nassau Communities Hospital North Addition was used as the subject for this study. The report below includes a complete lighting redesign of four spaces as well as a redesigned electrical system to accommodate these changes. Two electrical depth studies were also performed. These studies include the design of a motor control center for the new equipment in the power plant as well as an analysis of the cost associated with increasing feeder size compared to the cost of energy lost through voltage drop. As part of an architectural study, the existing courtyard was redesigned. A new diffuser layout and design in the lobby was the focus of a mechanical breadth study. As a part of the M.A.E. program, research on the biological effects of light on humans was studied and applied to the lighting design of the nurses' station. This thesis was presented to the AE faculty on April 13th, 2011. Click on the image below to view the full report. Links to individual sections are provided below.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work-in-progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Carl Speroff. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
